How We Started
Executive Director John Bannan formed PCF in July of 2006. It was John’s involvement with sports and the mentoring relationships he had with his coaches that helped him become a successful Olympic Rowing Coach, business person, and founder of PCF.
John was motivated by three things: his passion to provide young people with the support they need to excel in life; the understanding that resources in the city are abundant, but do not connect fully with the community they aim to serve; and the educational inequality that many students in Philadelphia face.
Today, PCF is an educational support, 501(c)(3) organization that serves children and youth in Philadelphia, PA. We strive to empower individuals and families to improve their life circumstances and with it, the future and well-being of Philadelphia.

Maysa Alijafari
Administrative Assistant
Maysa graduated in 2010 with a BA in Psychology from Temple University. Interning at the Philadelphia Children’s Foundation helped her realize that she wants to make a difference for the children in the Philadelphia area, by providing them with the resources they need to succeed in school and beyond. Her favorite part of working at PCF was doing the book drive at Dunbar Elementary School. It was rewarding to know that the children at the school were going to have more books in the library to read and enjoy. She looks forward to future book drives for elementary schools that are in need of more books. Helping young people imagine the possibilities they can have for their future is important to Maysa, and she is dedicated to making a difference in children’s lives in any way she can.
