Reading for Success
Reading for Success is a community sharing initiative that promotes literacy in struggling elementary schools. Twice every semester, PCF donates 1,000 books to an elementary school with the lowest PSSA Reading test scores in the Philadelphia School District. We present the books at an all-school assembly, along with a presentation by a community leader about the importance of literacy. The goal of this program is to replenish the city’s undersupplied school libraries and classrooms, while promoting the importance of reading for young learners. Past participants: Kinsey Elementary School with State Sen. Washington, Dunbar Elementary School with State Sen. Kitchen, Alcorn Academics Plus School with State Sen. Williams, Kenderton Elementary School with State Sen. Kitchen, Meade School with State Sen. Kitchen.
